How often should I do ab workouts and how many?

Posted by admin on September 6th, 2009 and filed under ab workouts | 5 Comments »

I use to do crunches, weighted sit-ups, and leg lifts 3 times a day everyday but im spose to let them rebuild right? Take a day off then do ab workouts.

I have 2 questions.
1) Can you do ab workouts everyday or do you do them every other day?

2)If I do do them every other day should I do my ab routine 3 times a day (breakfast, after school, night) or just one time a day?

Hopefully that makes sense….

One session per day, which can include multiple sets, five (or Four) days out of seven – varying your days off, should provide maximum results for minimum effort.

Results though will also depend on genetics, and your level of Body fat.

uh, every other day, one time per day is plenty. we exercise our abs even when we aren’t trying. most people don’t need a lot of purposeful ab work.

Your muscles need 48 hours to regenerate… so pacing your abdominal work outs to once every three days is best. Fill up the gap with other muscle groups.
    EX:
    Monday: Abs, Legs
    Tuesday: Arms, Back
    Wednesday: Chest
    and repeat that cycle.

Your best bet is to team up with a personal trainer so you know you are doing your exercises properly and they can help you lay out a good routine and exercise plan with realistic goals.

Do them every day once a day. Best time is in the morning when your body is well rested. When you work an unrested muscle, it breaks down and does not recover. The abs are strong enough to take this once a day, just keep in mind the injuries that can come from over working. You will know what is right for you. I am Army 18 years and abs are important to maintain. I have had injuries from overuse. Also, vary your ab routine. Do different parts. Focus on front one day and sides the next. Situps, Elevated Crunches, Supine Bicycle Kicks, Dumbbell Side Dips, Medicine Ball Catch & Throw, ect…Just start slow and do what you can. Hope this helps!

You should skip a day between hard ab workouts. The abs consist of 6 distinct muscle groups. You should not work them out 2 days in a row or you risk straining them.
